Don't miss the congregational Advent Fair Sunday, November 21 from 2:00-4:00 PM. New this year is the "hanging of the greens." Teens and adults will decorate the building for the season while children create decorations, treats, a take home Advent calendar and more. Parents are free to stay with their children or assist with the decorating.
Thanks to all the First Lutheran volunteers who baked cookies, loaded boxes and provided hospitality for the many guests who came bearing gifts of Lutheran World Relief quilts and kits. We had a total of 1493 boxes of supplies donated by area congregations. LWR sends their thanks, too.
The weather is getting colder, so why not come and join us this Sunday at noon for a bowl of hot chili. This year's chili cook off will benefit the Senior High youth's "Not in our Town" project. Come for food and fellowship and see who takes the traveling trophy home this year.
Shoulder to Shoulder Market
Saturday, November 20, and Sunday, November 21, you can shop at the Shoulder To Shoulder Market at First Lutheran. The market will feature items hand made by First Lutheran crafters and bakers as well as items from Ten Thousand Villages. This year the dollars raised will go to the First Lutheran Families In Need Fund. For more information contact Cindy Timperley or Robin Westhoff.
Immigration reform is the topic for Adult Forum on November 14 and 21. November 14 will focus on "Strangers in the Land," an overview of immigration history and realities today. November 21 will be centered on the local scene,"Taking it to Nebraska." Both sessions will be led by Elaine Kruse.
Harvest of the Spirit - the Word in Late Pentecost
The end of the Church's calendar is a season ofchallenge and celebration. October and November texts speak of the costs of discipleship and faithful living, and our festivals let us lift up renewal (Reformation Day, Oct. 31), remember the faithful who have died (All Saints Sunday, Nov. 7), and celebrate Jesus' kingship over all (Christ the King, Nov. 21)
Journey with us each week to hear Jesus' words of provocation, promise and peace.
