Letter to the Community Announces Samaritan Counseling Center of Lincoln Will Close on September 30, 2010 After much discussion, reflection and prayer the Samaritan Counseling Center Board of Directors has voted to close the center on September30, 2010. This will bring to an end the Samaritan Counseling Center's 23 years of service to Lincoln and surrounding communities, while at the same time opendoors to the possibilities of new opportunities for addressing our community'sgrowing mental health needs. Cole, Ph.D.St. Elizabeth Regional Medical CenterNebraska Dental AssociationLincoln's Samaritan Counseling Center's annual "The Art of Healing" celebration/fundraiser and "Spirit of the Good Samaritan" awards presentation was a family event with a "Big Red" flair. Held at Memorial Stadium's West Stadium Club, the May 1 event included tours of Tom and Nancy Athletic Complex, a special appearance of "Little Red", a tailgate buffet, family wellness activities, silent auction and dancing to Pink Floryde Band."Spirit of the Good Samaritan" awards were presented to an individual, business and communityorganization who exemplify the spirit of the Good Samaritan. The 2010 honorees are: IndividualAward, James K. Cole, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of Psychology, University of Nebraska -- Lincoln;Corporate Award, St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, accepting was Patrick Gilles, Vice President Clinical/Support Services; Community Award, Nebraska Dental Association, accepting was Dr. James Jenkins, Immediate Past President. The special evening raised funds to support the center's important work of providing hope, healing and a helping hand to those who can't afford the full cost of counseling at Samaritan Counseling Center.
