Students celebrate Thanksgiving
Kindergarten students at Harvey Oaks Elementary School performed "Music for an Autumn Afternoon" for their families and friends. Students and staff danced the "Gobblepalooza" at Disney Elementary School. Click for fun photos.
Xiongfei Zhang, a student at Millard North High School, won OPPD's Project Greenflick contest by creating a video called “Cost of the Ordinary.” He is pictured with Principal Brian Begley. The award included a monetary prize for the winner and school. View his video. High school students were encouraged to participate by first visiting www.aimgreenomaha.com. Fifty entries were judged on their creativity, educational value and “aim green” relevancy.
Kids try to break Guinness World Record
Students from Morton and Rockwell elementary schools competed in the sport of cup stacking. For the fifth year, Guinness World Records is billing it as the world's largest sport stacking event. See more.
A team from Kiewit Middle School placed first at the 2010 Finance Challenge, an online competition held during Money Smart Week. They competed against 62 teams across Nebraska. Pictured is the winning team including Rose Bernstein, coach and family consumer science teacher, and Xindi Chen, Andrew Nugyen, Megan Bosworth and Nora Breen.
Millard teacher places wreath at tomb
Tom Whisinnand, a teacher and instructional facilitator at Reagan Elementary School, represented the National Education Association when he placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Kelly Ekue’s class at Montclair Elementary School adopted a raptor at the Raptor Recovery Center. The experience was funded through a mini-grant of $250 provided by Hasbro Children’s Fund and GenerationOn Foundation. Read more.
Winter is coming!

Students at Morton Elementary School competed in the Great Pumpkin Decorating Contest to raise over $300 for the Open Door Mission for Thanksgiving meals. For a quarter, students could vote for their favorite pumpkin. Students who voted put their name in a raffle to win the pumpkin of their choice. Pictured are the student winners with their favorite pumpkins.
Ahoy! Watch out for pirates at Bryan Elementary School including reading teacher Bunny Rothenberg. She entertained students during "Pumpkin Walk," an evening when children displayed their decorated pumpkins and enjoyed trick-or-treat stations set up by Millard South High School students. Staff and PTO served dinner and held running games for the students.

Millard named Top 100 in nation for music
For the fifth time, the Millard School District has been named one of the top 100 places to live for a high-quality music education. The American Music Conference and NAMM Foundation issues the annual list. Read more.
Millard high schools named best in nation
Each year, Newsweek Magazine picks the best high schools in the U.S. “based on how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests." Only six percent make the list including all three Millard high schools. Read more.
